Two hundred people attended the one-year anniversary celebration of the Bear Springs Hotel on Highland Avenue on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

The hotel’s Chef Kyle Luke provided complimentary hors’ duerves to the guests.

Entertainment was provided by Dante Fire with classic Motown and pop with smooth notes of jazz.

The hotel has 105 rooms with 24-hour room service along with a shuttle service to San Manuel Casino and Big Bear.

The hotel staff of 90 employees has all been there since day one, said General Manager Gerri Manzo.

Manzo said one of the unique things about the hotel is that every room has a tablet that can be used to order room service or open the door to your room using the hotels app.

Assistant General Manager Moya Phimmasane said, “2019 has been a successful year for Bear Springs Hotel. We were able to bring a boutique characteristic feel to Highland, Calif. and look forward to continue to provide an unparalleled hospitality experience to our guests and community.”

A representative from District 3 Supervisor Dawn Rowe’s office presented the hotel with a certificate of recognition honoring the anniversary.

The hotel also has a bistro and lounge; I had a chance to try the food of Chef Luke a few days later.

There is a lunch and dinner menu, and the dinner menu features a chef’s special nightly, not on the menu as a regular item.

Lunch items such as burgers and sandwiches run $14 to $17 while dinner entrees run $19 to $23. Desserts begin at $9.

First, I was served an appetizer, pan-fried crab cakes with fried leeks, a small salad and yucca chips.

Next came the chef’s special, linguine pasta with shrimp and a vodka cream sauce spread.

For dessert, I rounded it off with a slice of triple chocolate mousse cake with my favorite, organic green jasmine tea.

I enjoyed the linguine pasta with shrimp; the flavor of the dish with the vodka cream sauce was divine. The fried leeks went along great with the crab cakes. And I can’t forget the triple chocolate mousse cake; as I am a chocolate lover and the flavors mixed with raspberry sauce tasted heavenly.

If you are looking for a place to celebrate an anniversary, graduation or birthday then the Bear Springs Bistro & Lounge is for you.
