Harkins Theatres in Mountain Grove Plaza reopened on Wednesday, March 17.
However, Studio Movie Grill has yet to announce its reopening or plans to close. Spokeswoman Lynne McQuaker said all of Studio Movie Grill’s locations remain under review, but as of now, Redlands isn’t part of the reopening plan.
“Whenever possible, it’s our intent to reopen these shuttered theaters,” said McQuaker. “We will share updates publicly when we have them available.”
Opening weekend in the Harkins Theater included new films “Tom & Jerry,” “Chaos Walking” and “The Courier.” Recent films “Tenet,” “Wonder Woman 1984,” “The Croods: A New Age” and “Monster Hunter” were also shown, as well as “The Dark Knight” for $5. Upcoming releases include “Godzilla vs. Kong” and the “A Quiet Place Part II.”
“There is no question this has been the most difficult time in my 50-plus years in the business,” said owner Dan Harkins. “I am excited and appreciative of our incredible team and tremendously loyal guests who have continued to support us through this challenging time.”
Harkins Theatres said they are dedicated to the highest standard of health and safety protocols. Utilizing resources from public health officials, medical experts, industry partners and local authorities, Harkins safety protocols meet or exceed uniform guidance from the CDC and government health authorities.
Face coverings are required for the Harkins staff and guests except while eating or drinking in seats. If a guest does not have a face covering, they are available at the theater. Face shields are accepted for people who have disabilities, preventing them from wearing a mask for long periods, but all guests must wear a face-covering throughout their visit.
Harkins has added cleaning staff and enhanced cleaning and sanitizing procedures throughout the theater and all touchpoints. All staff members receive daily health checks. Social distancing is also required throughout the theater.
All seating is reserved and reduced to safe distances between each seat. Showtimes are staggered to reduce the number of guests in the lobby, and there are safety shields at all guest interaction points. If guests have Harkins Loyalty Cups, they are refilled using a new paper cup. However, all other refills on drinks and popcorn are discontinued until further notice.
Harkins has increased fresh air using hospital-grade MERV 13 air filters and HEPA filtered vacuums in all auditoriums. Sanitizer stations are also now available throughout the theater.
