Highland Mayor Pro Tem Larry McCallon

Dear citizens of the Highland community,

Happy Independence Day! In past years, many of us would be spending the day with family and friends, watching parades, having barbecue picnics or enjoying the many parks and natural beauty all around us. This year, however, in-person family gatherings will probably be smaller, and some larger gatherings may even be done using different technology platforms or social media. Whatever way you chose, take the time to get together with those who are dear to you, remembering to protect those you love by heeding the current health safety guidelines. While the celebration will be different, the meaning has never been more heart felt.

The founders of our Republic were willing to sacrifice their lives and their fortune to obtain the liberty, independence and freedoms we have today. Over the years since then, many men and women have given their lives to ensure that we can continue to have liberty and be a free people, and many are still making sacrifices today. Ours is a nation built on the hard work of the men and women who came before us. Even though times are challenging right now, our American spirit, optimism and desire for a better future keep us going. I pray that you are as proud as I am to be part of this great country where we can still exercise or freedoms.

May you all have an enjoyable and safe Independence Day. God bless you and your family and God bless the United States of America!

Larry McCallon

Mayor, city of Highland
