Meal-worthy sides

Chili cheese pastrami fries and zucchini fries.

Looking for a family restaurant that offers a mix of American and Mexican cuisine, then the Burger Boys on 3694 E. Highland Ave., Unit 28, might be one to add to your list of places to visit.

The Burger Boys was opened last month by 22-year-old Cristian Nieto who commutes into Highland everyday from Victorville.

Nieto said since he was a little boy he has wanted to open up his own restaurant after seeing his dad working in the restaurant industry. He credits his faith in God and family for his success so far.

Nieto worked every position in the kitchen prior to opening his restaurant, working different restaurants in the San Pedro area.

On my visit to the Burger Boys I tried the avocado bacon cheese burger ($7.99), zucchini fries ($3.40), chili cheese pastrami fries ($7.69), a pastrami sandwich ($8.19) and homemade pineapple lemonade (medium $.3.59, large $4.09).

The burger had a fresh taste to it showing the quality and care that was taken in making it.

Vegetarians will love the zesty taste the zucchini fries leave on your taste buds.

The chili cheese pastrami fries are similar to those you get at sporting events, but without the expensive price tag.

The pastrami sandwich reminded me of the sandwiches my grandfather used to make before we went down to baseball games in San Diego as a kid. Like my grandfather’s, it uses quality pastrami.

One of the unique things about the Burger Boys is the ordering wall, which is to the left when you walk in the door. You place your order with one of the fine staff at the front counter (take-out and delivery from Doordash available) and they will deliver to one of the eight booths or single seating bar stools placed in front of the ordering wall.

Nieto tells his staff to always provide a “good welcome” and a great customer experience to diners who come into the Burger Boys.

It has a feel of a family restaurant but with a modern twist.

So if your ready for a great customer experience along with great food, the Burger Boys is the place to go.

The Burger Boys is open Sunday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and closed on Saturdays. To order for pick-up, call (909) 737-0275.
