On Nov. 18, 2017, at approximately 10:38 p.m., Highand deputies receieved a call of numerous vehicles driving recklessly in the area of the Lowe's Shopping Center on Greenspot in Highland.

Deputy Kassis arrived at the location to find hundreds of vehicles gathered in the shopping center. Several vehicles were driving in circles at a high rate of speed in the shopping center.

Kassis then observed a white Lexus driving in a reckless manner in the intersection near the entrance to the shopping center. Kassis attempted to stop the Lexus for the traffic violation, however it fled on Greenspot Road to the next shopping center entrance. The driver entered the parking lot at a high rate of speed and nearly struck several pedestrians. Due to the danger to the public, Kassis discontinued the pursuit.

Prior to discontinuing the pursuit, the license plate to the vehicle was obtained by Kassis. During the investigation, Husni Awad, 20, of Riverside was positively identified as the driver but is not the registered owner of the vehicle. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for Awad.

On Dec. 4, 2017, Awad was contacted by the Pomona Police Department on an unrelated matter and arrested for the felony warrant. He was booked into a Los Angeles County jail pending his transportation to San Bernardino County. On Dec. 7, 2017, Awad was booked at West Valley Detention Center for felony evading.

The investigation into the other reckless driver charges is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Sheriff's Highland Station (909) 425-9793. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or you may leave information on the We-Tip Hotline at www.wetip.com.
