Sheriff's Aviation to the rescue

On Monday, June 29, 2015, the victim, Manuel Garcia, 22, of Rialto was hiking alone in the Mt. Baldy area along the Cucamonga Peak Trail. Garcia was at the 7,500 foot elevation level when he began suffering from exhaustion. He was unable to hike any further and called 911 from his wireless telephone, his approximate location was unknown. Sheriff's Aviation 40 King responded to help locate Mr. Garcia.

After a brief search, the crew of 40 King located Garcia in a steep and rocky terrain. They determined he was uninjured and would need to be hoisted from the location. The crew of Sheriff's Air Rescue 06 was aware of the incident and had already responded. The crew arrived and performed a hoist rescue. He was transported to waiting family members at a nearby landing site.
