The driver of a semi-truck pulling two trailers loaded with gravel was killed when he lost control on the runaway truck ramp along Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass Thursday morning, the CHP reports.
At 11:15 a.m., the driver — a male in his 50s — of the white 2008 Freightliner Semi-truck was traveling south north of State Route 138, says a press release. It is unknown why he went onto the truck ramp.
“The truck and trailers overturned and the driver became trapped in the truck,” the release says. “Emergency personnel arrived on scene and attempted to rescue the driver from the vehicle. Due to the injuries he sustained from the collision, the driver succumbed to his injuries on scene.”
Officers are investigating to see if the collision was caused by a mechanical malfunction or driver error. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the San Bernardino County coroner.
This collision is still under investigation, anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Officer Liddle at the San Bernardino CHP Office at (909) 383-4247.
