On Sunday, Jan. 10, Highland resident Ronnie Santos, 57, was air rescued from Loma Linda Hills after he suffered injury while mountain biking.

According to a sheriff’s department press release, San Bernardino County Fire received a call of an injured mountain bike rider in the Loma Linda Hills at approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday. The victim was reported to be unconscious with head injuries.

Sheriff’s Helicopter Air Rescue 308 was requested to assist with a rescue and transportation of the victim to a local hospital. Due to the terrain and medical condition of the victim, the crew performed a hoist rescue.

Sheriff’s Air Medics P. Peng and G. Yee were hoisted down to the victim. He was placed in a rescue basket and hoisted back up to the aircraft. He was then transported to Loma Linda Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
