On Sunday, Aug. 29, Highland Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested 23-year-old Highland resident Joseph Nava for attempted murder after he allegedly assaulted a 62-year-old Highland resident at the intersection of Base Line and Cunningham Street.

According to a sheriff’s department press release, deputies from the Highland Sheriff’s Station responded to the intersection of Cunningham Street and Base Line in reference to a traffic collision. When deputies arrived, they located the victim in the roadway, bleeding from his head, with significant head trauma.

Through investigation, the deputies determined there had not been a traffic collision and Joseph Nava had assaulted the victim. Nava knocked the victim to the ground and punched him several times in the head. Nava fled the area but was quickly located by deputies.

Nava was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center for the charge of attempted murder.
