On May 3, Jason Scott Vanblarcom, 42, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the voluntary manslaughter of Highland photographer William (Pat) Mahoney, 58, who was found dead in his home on Sept. 28, 2017.
According to court documents, Vanblarcom plead not guilty to a count of murder and guilty to voluntary manslaughter during a trial that began on March 21. On March 26, third day of trial, Vanblarcom waived his right to trial by jury.
On May 3, he was sentenced to 11 years for voluntary manslaughter and four additional years for additional charges including use of a deadly weapon.
Mahoney was a longtime contributing photographer for the Highland Community News and was well known throughout the Highland community for his giving nature and his raising of service dogs and prize turkeys. His skills shone best in his sports and playfully creative photographs.
Highland deputies arrested Vanblarcom on Sept. 29, 2017, following a short vehicle pursuit.
