Capt. Richard Lawhead

One the eight victims struck by gunfire Sunday night, Sept. 2, at an apartment complex on Lynwood Drive has died, according to the San Bernardino County coroner’s office.

San Bernardino Police Department Capt. Rich Lawhead confirmed the news off-camera following a Friday afternoon press conference announcing the city’s efforts to expand its crime-free housing program.

The family of the victim, 23-year-old Marvin Carr, has refused to accept the coroner’s decision, Lawhead said. The body remains connected to a life-support system that keeps his organs functioning.

Another victim, a 17-year-old male, remains in critical condition.

Donating his organs could give the gift of life to many others.
