A Highland resident received moderate smoke and burn injuries during a house fire on Cypress Avenue Thursday morning, Dec. 5.

The structure fire at 27164 Cypress Ave., a 2-story single-family home, was first reported at 10:11 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Josh Janssen.

Janssen was first on the scene and reported heavy smoke pouring out of the second story windows and heavy smoke and flames from a rear room on the first story.

A resident was standing out front suffering from moderate smoke and burn injuries. The patient was treated and transported to a local hospital by paramedics.

About a dozen fire engines and trucks from several agencies responded to assist in putting out the 2-alarm fire.

Fire knockdown was completed at 10:21 a.m.

According to Janssen, the Highland, San Manuel, Redlands and Yucaipa fire departments responded.

The house received heavy fire and smoke damage on the first floor and heavy smoke damage on the second. It was red tagged.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
