San Bernardino County Human Trafficking Task Force has charged a San Jacinto man with pimping, pandering and holding three girls and a 24-year-old woman against their will.
In November 2017, two juvenile females reported to the Ontario Police Department they had been victims of human trafficking by Damon Berverly, 35, at a local motel, according to a press release.
“At the time of the report, the victims could only identify the suspect to the police by his alias ‘KD,” the release says. “Investigators worked to identify the suspect but were initially unsuccessful.”
Ontario Police Cpl. N. Lefler, a member of the task force, assumed the investigation. He continued investigating the case with the assistance of other task force members and last month was able to positively identify Beverly as the suspect.
“As the investigation continued, website advertisements for prostitution were found to be continually posted by the suspect,” the release says.
On Monday, July 2, Lefler identified a website advertisement for prostitution placed by Beverly at an unidentified location in Riverside County. Task Force investigators initiated an undercover operation, contacting Berverly through the advertisement and were directed to a motel the 27000 block of Jefferson Avenue in Temecula.
“Task Force members responded to the location and were able to identify the motel room associated with Beverly's advertisement, as well as his vehicle in the parking lot. As investigators continued their operation, Beverly was seen leaving the motel in his vehicle.”
With the assistance of Riverside County sheriff's deputies from the Temecula Station, a traffic enforcement stop was conducted on the suspect vehicle on Interstate 15, and Beverly was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators found the adult victim — advertised by Beverly — at the motel room. The victim and Beverly were taken back to the Ontario Police Department for additional investigation and interviews.
As a result of the investigation, Beverly was arrested at the Ontario Police Department for felony pimping, pandering and human trafficking of a minor and as an adult. He was booked at West Valley Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of $1 million.
