Joan Hannold, born on July 5, 1935, died Dec. 27, 2020.
Joan was born in Batavia, N.Y. When she was about 10 years old she met a foster kid named Ron Hannold. She didn't know it then but she would later marry that boy. She married him and together they traveled the world through the military. They were married 64 years.
Joan gave birth to two children. When Ron was away for the military, Joan raised the kids. When Ron was on leave Joan worked in retail sales. Joan did work as an accountant before she was married. Ron retired in 1972 and Joan took a job in retail sales for the Sears catalog. She worked there until the department closed in the early 1990s.
After retirement they decided to become hosts at Tahoe Valley Y Campground in Lake Tahoe. They did this for many summers.
Ron and Joan lived life to the fullest, traveling the United States in their travel trailer. They were avid square dancers and members of the Camp Fire Squares, a square dancing travel club.
Joan was a faithful member of the Highland Congregational Church and a frequent member of Highland Senior Center. Joan took up making fleece blankets to sell at craft shows in her later years.
According to her family, Joan was a good friend to everyone she met. She was a great listener and was always willing to pitch in to help. She was the sweetest person you could ever meet.
She is survived by her children Randy, Robin and grandson Jeffrey. Her sister Joyce preceded her in death.
