Once again we enjoyed an outstanding fireworks show at Immanuel Baptist Church. I’m always awed when I see such a spectacular display put on by such a small and young city. Not only was the show amazing, but the traffic management when it was over is equally amazing.

Ever since Attorney General Jeff Sessions and President Trump have come out voicing their outrageous views attempting to take children away from their mothers, I’ve been seething.

We finally gained the victory we anticipated, when the South Coast Air Quality Management District Governing Board voted to begin an indirect source rule making process during its meeting on May 4.

Let me say first that the changes made to the Highland Community News have been so positive. The new in-depth articles such as the one several weeks ago about the East Branch Aqueduct help me gain a much better understanding of how local agencies operate.

I've been an admirer of Billy Graham for as long as I can remember. As most of the Christian community knows, he has passed into his rewards, which I believe will be many. He put such a great deal of energy into everything he did — preaching, traveling, writing, his family, and the re…

If we picture ourselves as an atom of a grain of sand, it can have a psychological healing effect when life takes a downturn. (A single grain of sand contains 22 quintillion atoms, that’s 22 with 18 zeros). We must learn not to focus on ourselves too seriously. With this attitude, disappoint…

I found the website for the new tax code that is being considered in the House.  I think it would be good to have the folks in Highland have a opportunity to read it.  I'm up to page 127, and have a headache--a major headache.  I don't think that this is going to be a tax break for many of u…

I wish to thank all the E.M.T.'s and firefighters in Highland who helped me with my husband during his last days. They were kind and helpful to my husband, and I want to say a big THANK YOU to all who helped.

We are living in a different time now, because now instead of helping, someone will video the incident and post it on the web where it goes viral. That i what happened to the disabled man who downed. I was disgusted with these five teenage boys who didn’t offer any assistance, but took a vid…

I read the article last week on how the East Valley Water is going to give their employee's a 3 % raise every year for the next 3 Years. So my first question is when are our Drought rates going to go back to normal rate? We all here in Highland understood that there was a water shortage and …

I want to apologize to the FedEx driver who DID deliver my Mother’s Day gifts. Cameras in the trailer park where I live showed the packages taken by a porch thief. My packages did come back, but they don’t know who the thief is.

As someone who works at the nation’s leading animal protection organization, I’m normally pleased to see letters about helping animals. However when the letter is from a group that tries to thwart efforts to help animals, that’s an exception.

Some good friends of mine were awaken this morning at 5:30 am by a concerned neighbor who asked them to step outside. Only to find their Son-in-laws truck on bricks and half on the ground.. Not only is this terrible, it's really sad as he is serving our country at the moment over in Afghanis…

As rising summer temperatures lead to backyard cookouts and hours spent at the pool, Pet Appreciation Week (June 4-10) serves as the perfect reminder that our pets will also be looking for ways to cool down and stay refreshed in the coming months.

After braving an hour-long commute, I weighed whether to get dinner at the El Pollo Loco in San Bernardino or Redlands.  I realized that I would (again) be spending money somewhere other than Highland and that I’ve been pouring money into neighboring cities for a decade.
