To the citizens of Highland:
Please join me on this Memorial Day in honoring and remembering all the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who have sacrificed their lives in unwavering service to our great country. We are reminded on this day of each of those brave men and women who stepped forward to serve our nation, willing to fight and die for the sake of freedom. Because of their sacrifice, we as Americans can, especially on this day, enjoy time with our families and remember that the freedoms we have are not free, they cost dearly.
To all the families in Highland who have sons and daughters that gave their lives to defend our freedoms, know that we will always remember and honor their sacrifice. We would like to also salute the bravery and show our gratitude to all the military men and women who have served and are currently serving our nation. Thank you for your service!
I also recognize that this is an unprecedented time that we are in, as a city, as a country and as a world. COVID-19 has affected every single person. As I reflect on the past and what this nation has been through and what it is going through now, I am reminded that we as a people and as a nation are resilient and, together, we can persevere through anything, especially this pandemic. Please take the time to help each other and be kind to one another.
God bless you and your family, and God bless the United States of America!
Mayor Larry McCallon
