The Cajon High basketball team outscored Yucaipa by seven points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Thunderbirds 58-49 on Friday, Jan. 7.
Nathen Hernandez led Yucaipa with 21 points and nine rebounds and Mitchell Hendrickson added 20 points. Joshua Macias dished out five assists for the Thunderbirds and Adam Cano had four assists.
The game was the Citrus Belt League opener for both Cajon (10-3, 1-0) and Yucaipa (10-3, 0-1).
REV boys split pair
The Redlands East Valley High boys’ soccer team split a pair of Citrus Belt League games last week.
The Wildcats (2-3, 1-1) fell to Beaumont 1-0 and defeated Citrus Valley (2-7-1, 0-2) 4-2.
Against Citrus Valley, Cruz Navarro, Matthew Thorig, Khoury Khalloufi and Ashton Palmer all had goals for REV.
No spectators at Currier Gym
The University of Redlands announced that no spectators will be allowed at athletic events inside Currier Gymnasium in January.
“The health and safety of our students and the community at the University of Redlands remains paramount in the difficult decisions being made during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said a notice on the university athletic website. “The University of Redlands Athletic Department has worked closely with the university administration as well as local health authorities to create a safe environment for our student-athletes and staff.”
The notice said the no-spectator policy will be revisited later in the month.
Beaumont, REV girls tie
The Beaumont and Redlands East Valley girls’ soccer teams tied 2-2 on Wednesday, Jan. 5, in the Citrus Belt League opener for both teams.
Delaney Barbee and Brooklyn Martinez had goals for REV. Macyn Cornish and Megan Agnoletto tallied for Beaumont. Angoletto’s goal came in stoppage time to earn the tie for the Cougars (9-0-3, 0-0-1). REV moved to 2-4-3, 0-0-1).
Beaumont girls win
The Beaumont High girls’ basketball team defeated Redlands East Valley 63-51 in the Citrus Belt League opener for both teams.
The game was played on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The victory was the 16th without a loss for Beaumont. REV is now 4-10.
Rosete leads Eagles
The Arrowhead Christian Academy girls’ basketball team got 21 points from Aliyah Rosete to defeat Woodcrest Christian of Riverside 49-43 on Friday, Jan. 7.
ACA moved to 10-4 overall, 3-3 in the Ambassador League with the victory.
ACA’s Kierah Caparas scored nine points to augment Rosete’s big effort. Grace Medina scored six points, Gwen Murray and Stephanie Wagner chipped in with five points each and Dana Frizzell scored three for the Eagles.
